Samsung 950 Pro m.2 PCIe SSD Review

Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD Review

The Samsung 950 Pro is the new flagship consumer drive released by Samsung delivers blistering performance in a small package delivers ultra fast transfer speeds for the end consumer .  The Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) protocol has replaced AHCI improving the user experience as it reduces latency. It  combine the company's high-speed V-NAND memory with  PCI Express 3.0 x4 connection in the M.2 2280 form factor coupled with the NVMe protocol.Samsung says  that a 1TB model will launch early in 2016, and will employ Samsung's 48-layer MLC V-NAND

The 950 Pro is available in two capacities: 256 and 512 GB.  The 512 GB drive can read at up to 2,500MB/sec and write at 1,500MB/sec, while the 256 GB drive can read at 2,200MB/sec and write at 900MB/sec. Both capacities employ the M.2 2280 form factor.  All 950 Pros will eventually have a full set of security features Including  256-bit AES encryption is already implemented . It comes alongside version 4.8 of the firm's Magician software and will have a few new tricks up its sleeve to handle drive maintenance NVMe-style. The 950 Pro's heart is a Samsung UBX controller, the same one found on the SM951 The UBX controller is manufactured on a 32nm node and consists of three ARM Cortex-R4 cores running at 500MHz. The controller can address eight channels with eight-way interleaving. The 950 Pro include a five-year warranties limited by the total amount of data written to the drive. Samsung's 256 GB version is capped at 200 terabytes written and the 512GB drive doubles that to 400 TBW. The 950 Pro is the new flagship, but it is certainly not a replacement for the 850 Pro. The pricing reflects that: $200  for the 256 GB and $350 for the 512GB is about 50% higher than current retail prices for the 850 Pro, which is still one of the top performing consumer SSDs.
